College of Nursing, MMC Chennai was started in 1967 at Madras Medical College, with an annual intake of 10 students for Diploma in Nursing Education course. Now the current intake is 50 students. The College is affiliated to Dr. M.G.R Medical University , approved by INC and TNC.

The Courses offered by the Madras Medical College are affiliated from 1988 to the "The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University.” This College has nine affiliated institutions with hospitals, each one of them recognized for excellence in health care services. This College stands with pride for having produced Doyens in the field of medicine and the College provides best infrastructure including library, hostel, equipped laboratories, furnished classrooms , etc. Separate hostel facilities are available for girls & boys. Hygienic food is issued in the hostel. Indoor and Outdoor games are conducted in the hostel for encourage the Personal talents of students.
