Armed Forces Medical College was established on 01 May 1948. Armed Forces Medical College, Pune is a premier medical institution in India. AFMC has the distinction of being the first medical college set up by the Armed Forces of any country in Asia. The college is a unique institution which combines medical education with training specific to the health care needs of the Armed Forces. The College of Nursing was established in November 1964 with an annual intake of 40 students who are selected through an all India competitive examination, it has produced more than 1000 nursing officers for the Military Nursing Services.
